There are many different types of vintage homes and each one has its own style and elements. Being able to recognize which type of vintage house you are looking at is a skill that will take some time to develop. If you are just interested in old houses, knowing what you are looking at is always a good idea. Below is a quick rundown of the elements of a variety of vintage house styles:

Queen Anne Style – The Queen Anne was one of the most important house styles in the 19th and early 20th century. These houses were popular in England from about 1860 to 1890 and a bit later in the United States. These houses made use of turrets, oriel windows and many other medieval influences. They were popular with lumber and railroad barons. Queen Anne’s were often quite large and impressive. Common elements included steep roof pitch, towers and turrets, long and narrow windows as well as covered porches that wrap from the front around the side of the house.

The Cape Cod – These simple and charming cottages were very popular during the early part of the 20th century. These cozy looking homes feature a rectangular footprint but incorporate a steep gabled roof. Cape Cods were often quite plain and were popular with young couples. The Cape Cod style was often commonly used for vacation homes as well. These houses were very affordable and were built in great numbers during the depression. A few common elements of a Cape Cod are: a single bedroom on the first floor with additional ones on the second, a small roof overhang and gabled dormers.

Tudor and English Cottage – These styles were quite popular from 1915 to the early 1940’s. The Cottage is still a popular style today. These houses have a cross-gabled roof that incorporates a very steep pitch. They often have decorative half timbering with tall slender windows. The Tudor and Cottage both have a very big chimney that is often decorated. They can be sided with stucco, stones or even clapboard. The siding will often depend on the area of the country the house is located in. These are very distinctive houses and this style has enjoyed many years of popularity. A few common elements would be: Many of them are one and half stories high and feature cozy irregular shaped rooms.

Split Level – These houses are sometimes called raised ranches and were quite popular in the 1960s and 70’s. It made excellent use of interior space and was a considered a very efficient design. A half staircase would lead to the upstairs bedrooms while another half staircase lead to the lower level, which housed the family room and laundry area. There were many variations but these elements were quite common: Low pitched roofs and deep set eaves along with a asymmetrical façade were common outside elements while an open floor plan was common on the interior.

So it was a dream wedding just over. Our day. Min and Anders. The sun shone all day for us, and everyone in the immediate family were present, except for ‘grandma’ Sigfrid, which unfortunately do not have the health to travel from Sandnes to Hægebostad.
Weddings are definitely a dream day with love in focus! Could wish I could get it back again and again (with some småvrir of course – you can not get everything to go so we would rather be ..).

There were several things that we put back the day after … Among other things, lots of food. Sweets, cakes, fruit, sandwiches and these beautiful cupcakes’ene. As with everything else, I know how I want it. And these were just cupcakesene as desired. Beautiful and romantic in soft pastels. And quite amazing in taste!

The highlight of the day was definitely the ceremony in the church and shoot on the beautiful beach and pier at the beach Rosfjord.
The atmosphere and setting was just unforgettable!

After waiting a beautiful room with hvitdekkede round table and chairs with white chair covers, big romantic wall stickers on the wall with the words: Grow old along with me – the best is yet to be,
candlesticks of silver, poor man, girl kiss and heart candy in bowls from Madame Stoltz, dozens of bouquets of roses, Memory Lane, romantic small gifts to all guests, silver candlesticks femarmede candlelight + +.
Some will probably say I was crazy with all that I put in this room to get it as perfect as possible, but it was really worth it! Down to the last penny and minute! It was just as carried out as I wanted it …

The happy bride photographed by its beautiful best man on the beach at Rosfjord beach;

* More pictures to come later!

Yes, as you know – we have started building houses. Or that is house-planning. * Smiles! For it is sooo much to think about in such a process, and we want to make sure everything is perfect before proceeding with the actual framing.
The house I / we sign itself, both exterior and floor plans. All based on what our own ideas and preferences. And based on these sketches have a skilled building architect designed a perfect house for us.

I can reveal that there is a large and elegant house in true Swiss style. House has a footprint of about 180 square meters and two storeys with a hip roof – gable roof is not really typical of the original Swiss style.

(Photo: Unknown.)

This picture gives a small indication of how the house will look like. Both the front and back, we have chosen a large porch / branches / veranda buildings, like this picture. Our house will be slightly higher than this foundation and a small frontporch on the back at the entrance.
The front will have a large and sunny terrace on the first floor, which extends beyond the lawn.

The house also has hip roofs and large, high windows in the second floor – in contrast to this house.
There will be many white tofløyde interior doors in the old style, several of the rooms are located in the file, and it made room for both the stove in the living room and an open fireplace in the kitchen.

Are there others who wish to build a similar house I can recommend the following websites:

Easter is just around the corner, and as with so many other festivals we can not get away with some decorating and decorating around the house.
Although the correct color scheme definitely would have been yellow now for Easter – it is unfortunately not so much to find the color here in this home.

However, I have picked birch twigs and found the easter egg I won at Anette House last year. I do not think it’s that bad considering that my health is worse than ever and my wedding is only three weeks away! Whew!

I actually struggled with sinus infections since Christmas, and all pencillinkurene have put the entire immune system and especially the stomach completely out of sorts – so there is nothing seriously wrong. The whole thing is just really annoying not to mention tiring and painful!
But I bet now that I’m on the mend!

…. and it is wonderful! On the veranda the temperature reached 20 degrees this afternoon. But as it blew a gale, and then some outside – I kept myself indoors. Which suited me so well, since this is the first Friday in a long time that I have not been sick or had errands in connection with the wedding. It is actually nice to just relax completely. Not having anything on the agenda!

The other day I ordered some beautiful wreaths from the store, beautiful home – I have not regretted a second. They fit just as well because here in the window, as I had hoped for. Wreaths are genuine and are made so that they will stay for long. Something I really hope they do.

Ps: As you can see, there’s a new button, Swiss Villa, the menu bar. That’s because we finally started building houses. At least the paper brass (among other things, my sketches become real hustegninger). More Info. comes later!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND ALL TOGETHER ♥

Yes, it was time to blog again. Notice that it is not always easy to ‘find the’ something to write about. Good motives are found not every day – at least not me!
There is fortunately the spring here in Southern Norway. The days are getting longer and brighter, and most are now starting to get out of a very small vintderdvale. For this winter has been tough and long here in Southern Norway.

Plans are also many. In exactly one month follow my dad me up the aisle. I’m going to marry me. There – now it was published, also here on the blog! Planning has been going on in full swing since around Christmas. The dress has been purchased, Jimmy Choo shoes from the Northern Troms is purchased, party venue, flowers, etc. are also in the box.

This is a typical my / ourwedding. Wallstickers on the wall, monograms, romantic cupcakes in soft pastel colors, a classic three-storey wedding cake in white marzipan. Decorated with roses, ribbons and eat only the beads.

Poor man’s silver on the tables, high five-armed candelabra in silver, roses, cones, Norway glass, lace and white upholstery ….. – Wow me, there is much to be arranged!
